September is one of the most rewarding months in Chefchaouen. The peak-summer heat eases — daytime highs settle around 28°C and keep softening through the month — the August crowds begin to thin, and the clear, warm light flatters the blue medina from the early lanes to the sunset viewpoint. Evenings are pleasantly cool, a hallmark of the Rif setting, and the town feels relaxed again as the summer rush fades while the weather stays bright and dry.
It is an excellent month for the mountains, with comfortable temperatures and still-dry trails. The Akchour Waterfalls and the cedar paths of Talassemtane National Park are at their best for a day's walking, the rivers settled and the air fresh and pine-scented. In the medina, the full circuit flows easily: early photography on Rue Targa, the Kasbah Museum and Ras El Ma by day, Rif goat cheese and mint tea on a rooftop, and the Spanish Mosque hike for a warm, clear sunset over the blue rooftops.
September sits in the shoulder, so prices and crowds are gentler than peak summer while the weather trends close to ideal. For travellers who want warm, bright days, comfortable mountain walking and the famous blue lanes with a little more breathing room, it is a standout choice — and the softened late-summer light makes it especially fine for photography across the medina and the green Rif country beyond.
