April is one of the loveliest months in Chefchaouen. Daytime highs around 19°C are fresh and comfortable — perfect for walking the steep blue lanes — the Rif hillsides are green and flowering, and the bright, settled days now clearly outnumber the wet ones. Evenings are mild, the medina is at its photogenic best under clean spring light, and the town strikes an ideal balance: lively and fully open, but not yet at the height of the summer crowds.
It is prime time to combine the blue city with the mountains around it. Trails are dry and the rivers have calmed from their winter rush, so the Akchour Waterfalls — with its natural pools and the Bridge of God arch — and the cedar paths of Talassemtane National Park are at their best for a day's walking in cool, pine-scented air. In town, the full circuit flows easily: early photography on Rue Targa, the Kasbah Museum and Ras El Ma by day, and the Spanish Mosque hike for a clear, green-framed sunset.
Popularity is the only real catch. April, especially around Easter, brings Chefchaouen's busier spring season, so the most famous lanes fill by mid-morning and riads book up — go early for photography and reserve ahead. The reward is close-to-ideal conditions for both the medina and the mountains: fresh, green, comfortable days that make April an excellent choice for a first visit blending the blue town with real Rif walking.
