Essaouira in October

October is a gentle, excellent month in Essaouira. Daytime highs around 22°C stay mild and bright, the trade winds have eased noticeably from their summer ferocity into a calmer, more comfortable breeze, and the peak crowds have largely gone. The blue-and-white medina, the Skala ramparts and the working harbour feel relaxed and uncrowded, and the warm autumn light deepens the colour of the painted boats and the white-and-blue walls — fine conditions for both photography and unhurried wandering.

With the wind calmer, October is one of the most balanced months for time on the coast. Beach walks are far less sandblasted than in midsummer, while there is still enough breeze for kitesurfing on the wide main beach. The medina, the thuya-wood studios, the art galleries and the harbour-side grilled sardines all reward a leisurely pace, and the softer wind makes rampart sunsets and long coastal strolls especially pleasant in the golden autumn air.

October keeps Essaouira's easy appeal as a coastal leg from Marrakech, now with milder wind and post-season calm. Prices and crowds ease from the summer peak while the weather stays excellent and largely dry. A windbreaker is still essential — the Atlantic breeze never fully drops — and a light layer covers cool evenings. For mild days, gentler wind and that warm autumn light, October is a standout, well-rounded time to visit.
