What Marrakech is like in May

May is warm, dry and dependable — the last comfortable month before the deep-summer heat. Daytime highs reach around 29°C, the skies are reliably blue, and evenings are warm enough for long rooftop dinners without a jacket. The city is busy but not stifling, the gardens are at their lushest, and the Atlas and coast are both prime: this is excellent timing for travellers who want heat without the punishing intensity of July and August.

Good to know

Marrakech in May: your questions

Is May a good time to visit Marrakech?+
Yes. May is warm, dry and reliable — the last comfortable month before summer's heat. Highs around 29°C, blue skies and warm evenings make it excellent for sightseeing, Atlas walks and coastal trips. It is a strong choice for travellers who want warmth without July's intensity.
How hot is Marrakech in May?+
Marrakech in May has daytime highs of around 29°C and night-time lows near 15°C. Days are warm and bright, best paced with shade and water through midday, while evenings are pleasantly warm for outdoor dining. It is hot but still manageable for full days out.
Is it rainy in Marrakech in May?+
May is dry and reliably sunny, with only around 2 rainy days on average. Rain is rare and brief. You can plan city sightseeing and day trips to the Atlas, coast or south with very high confidence in clear, settled weather.
What should I pack for Marrakech in May?+
Pack light, breathable clothing, a sun hat, high-SPF sunscreen and sunglasses, plus comfortable walking shoes and a refillable water bottle. Evenings are warm, so a jacket is rarely needed in the city — bring one only for higher Atlas excursions.

  • It is a strong month for pairing Marrakech with the mountains and the Atlantic. The High Atlas is green and snow-free on the lower trails, ideal for walking, while a day in Essaouira trades the city's warmth for a fresh sea breeze. In Marrakech itself, sightseeing is best taken at a relaxed pace with shade and water through the warmest midday hours, leaving the cooler mornings and golden evenings for the souks and squares.

Further afield, May is also Rose Festival season in Kelaa M'Gouna, in the valleys south-east of the city, when the rose harvest fills the air and the markets — a memorable detour on a southern or desert itinerary. With dry weather, warm evenings and the whole region accessible, May closes the spring window on a high note before summer turns the heat up sharply.
